Roger Federer Getting Ready For Geneva, French Open
Roger Federer is on track for a return later this month at his home Geneva event and then the French Open. Federer, who has played just one event this year — a loss in the second round of Doha to Nikolaz Basilashvili —
Last month, the Swiss announced that Geneva and the French Open would comprise his clay season.
“Hi everyone! Happy to let you know that I will play Geneva๐จ๐ญ and Paris ๐ซ๐ท. Until then I will use the time to train. Canโt wait to play in Switzerland again. โค๏ธ๐”, he tweeted.
But coach Severin Luthi followed saying Federer’s fitness was not where it needed to be.
“In terms of fitness, Roger is still lagging behind, which is a priority,” Luthi told Swiss radio last month.
“Tennis practice sessions are very intense and good, but are not taking place that often yet like they would be in a tournament environment.”
Geneva begins on May 16.
