Zhu Wins First Career Title In Hua Hin, Sinks Tsurenko
Lin Zhu got by Lesia Tsurenko 6-4, 6-4 to claim her first career WTA title in Hua Hin, Thailand.
In a break-filled final (14 breaks total), the 54th-ranked Zhu won just 52% first serves and broke the Ukrainian eight times.
This was Zhu’s 1st career WTA final.
“I’m super happy to win my first title here in Hua Hin,” the 29-year-old Zhu said. “Lesia, she’s a fighter, she never gives up, so I needed to give 100 percent and I needed to be more patient, especially towards the end.
“A little bit nervous, but I know it’s normal, so I had to handle that, I had to attack when I’d have a chance, because she’s not going to give this match to me. I’m super happy I did it.”
In her 6th career final, Tsurenko was seeking a 5th title.
