Alcaraz Victorious Over Djere In 2023 Opener In Buenos Aires

Carlos Alcaraz made a successful start to his delayed 2023 campaign dispatching Laslo Djere in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the second round in Buenos Aires.

The US Open champion finished with four aces, wo 14/21 (67%) on second serves, was 4 of 12 on break chances and was broken once, that in the second set.

Djere had saved all eight break chances faced in the second and then broke to for the decider. But the teen broke immediately and retain control of the match.


“It’s a great feeling to win again,” Alcaraz said to the ATP. “It’s been a long time for me with no competition, with no matches, just recovering. Finally I got my first win of 2023.

“I’m really happy,” Alcaraz said of being in Buenos Aires. “I didn’t expect such a great crowd, a great atmosphere behind me. So I just can say thank you to all the fans here in Buenos Aires for the warm welcome that I received in this first match and I hope to keep going with this energy.”

Djere drops to 3-13 against Top 10 players and 1-6 against Top 5 players. Alcaraz takes their first tour-level clash.

Second-seeded Cameron Norrie also went the distance needed three to eliminate Facundo Diaz Acosta 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(8-6). Norrie couldn’t hold a third set break lead
