Iga Swiatek returned to her dominant form crushing the field and Jessica Pegula to win her second straight Doha title. The world No. 1 dropped a total of five games in three matches culminated by pounding the second-seeded Pegula 6-3, 6-0 in the final Saturday.

“I’m really happy that I could kind of find more balance, comparing to how I felt at the beginning of the season,” Swiatek told the WTA after her first title since October. “I think this tournament is going to give me a lot of confidence, but still, I want to take everything step by step. I’m just really happy that I could win this match today.”

On another blustery day, Swiatek broke Pegula six times and won the last eight games of the of the 68-minute match.

“Every game I was really focused, and that’s the thing I’m most happy about, because at the beginning of the season I felt like my mind was kind of flying away sometimes,” Swiatek said. “But here, the work we have put in with my coach on court and with Daria off the court, for sure, it just paid off, and I felt like everything is clicking.”

Pegula, who was seeking her third career title, won just 5 of 19 points on her second serve. She falls to 2-5 against Swiatek, but did beat her last month at the United Cup. But today, the wind was too much.

“I don’t really think I played bad at all,” Pegula stated. “It was just two totally different sides of the world, dry, Sydney was a little more humid. I think it was just totally different conditions.

“I thought maybe the wind would bother the fact that she hit so much spin, sometimes the wind can kind of take it. Seemed like she was playing with really good margins, and she was still taking the ball I think pretty early.

“I think that was her goal was to play super aggressive and not let the wind become a factor, keep her margins really big, which she was able to do.

Swiatek captures her 12th career title in this her 14th career final.

A year ago Doha was the start of Swiatek’s 37-match win streak. What’s in store this year?
