After a disappointing Australian Open, Iga Swiatek has found her footing in Doha this week. The world No. 1 hammered Veronica Kudermetova 6-0, 6-1 to return to the final.

Swiatek, who had a walkover in the quarters, has lost just two total games in four sets of play this week.

Today, the 21-year-old lost a total of five points on her service and never faced a break point.

“I was pretty worried about how I was going to compete with the conditions today, so I’m glad that I could play the smart way,” Swiatek told the WTA. “I’m pretty happy that I was so solid.”

Swiatek moves into her 14th career final. She is looking for her 12th career title. And in the championship match tomorrow she’ll face first-time Doha finalist Jessica Pegula.

The American earlier advanced over Maria Sakkari 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, taking the last five games of the contest on a windy day.

“That was probably the hardest conditions I’ve ever had to play in, wind-wise. I’m glad I didn’t get too frustrated. I think I played very smart,” stated Pegula.

In Saturday’s 1 vs 2 final, Swiatek has won four of six tour-level encounters against Pegula. Pegula just won at the United Cup last month.

“I was pretty worried about how I was going to compete with the conditions today, so I’m glad that I could play the smart way,” Swiatek said in victory. “I’m pretty happy that I was so solid.”
