Fritz Sails Past Gomez In Delray Beach, Will Face Mannarino In QF

The top two seeds at Delray Beach — Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul — stayed on course for a final collision on Sunday.

In second round play, the 25-year-old Fritz flew past Emilio Gomez 6-4, 6-3. Fritz, ranked No. 7, had 11 aces and broke serve three times in the win.

The 31-year-old Gomez broke for a quick 1-0 lead in the second, but French would later level and eventually win the last five games of the match serving it out at love.


Gomez drops to 0-3 against Top 10 players.

The Australian Open semifinalist Paul eliminated 30-year-old countryman Denis Kudla 6-3, 6-4. Paul has won both of tour-level head-to-head collisions with Kudla.

“It’s always nice to be home. I live like 15 minutes away from here,” Paul told the ATP. “It’s nice to play in front of my friends and some of my family here. It’s easy to have my whole team here so it’s always a good time.”

French veteran Adrian Mannarino knocked out rising American J.J. Wolf in two sets 7-5, 6-2. And Radu Albot moved past Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 6-4.

Looking at tomorrow, quaterfinal player shapes up with Adrian Mannarino – No. 1 Taylor Fritz, No. 2 Tommy Paul – Radu Albot, No. 4 Miomir Kecmanovic – Marcos Giron and Mackenzie McDonald – Michael Mmoh.
