Swiatek, Pegula In Action Wednesday In Tokyo
Top seeds Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula are back on court Wednesday in Tokyo.
The two will hope to start the final month of the season on a positive note after a disappointing US Open. Swiatek has upset by Jelena Ostapenko while Pegula was bounced by Madison Keys.
The early exits also changed their rankings. Swiatek is no longer the world No. 1 while Pegula no longer the American No. 1.
Swiatek takes on qualifier Mai Hontama. Pegula battles the Spaniard Christina Bucsa.
Earlier today, No. 6 Daria Kasatkina sent out the Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk from a set down 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Misaki Doi toppled Croatia’s Petra Martic 7-5, 6-2. Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova and Veronika Kudermetova also advanced.
