Khachanov Claims Zhuhai Over Nishioka, Wins First Title In Nearly 5 Years
Karen Khachanov earned his first title in five years besting the 8th-seeded Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6(7-2), 6-1 to take the trophy in Zhuhai Tuesday in China.
Almost a foot taller than Nishioka, the 6-foot-6 Khachanov smacked nine aces, had 34 winners, was broken once but broke three times in the match.
Khachanov has now won four of five tour-level clashes when facing Nishioka. Overall, it’s his 5th career title and first since his incredible Paris Masters run in 2018.
The Russian had missed time this summer due to a stress fracture in his back.
The lefty Nishioka was seeking his 3rd career title. This was his 5th career final.
