US Open Stars Alcaraz, Ruud Headline ATP Acapulco

A solid field is set for the ATP 500 level event in Acapulco. Four of the Top 10 players will be in Mexico headlined by US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz and finalist in New York Casper Ruud.

Americans will be well represented with former finalist Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Australian Open semifinalist Tommy Paul, Brandon Nakashima plus John Isner and new stars Ben Shelton and JJ Wolf.

Top seeds are 1 Carlos Alcaraz, 2 Casper Ruud, 3 Taylor Fritz, 4 Holger Rune, 5 Cameron Norrie, 6 Frances Tiafoe, 7 Tommy Paul, 8 Alex de Minaur.

The 19-year-old Alcaraz is projected to meet 7 Paul in the quarters, No. 3 Fritz – 6 Tiafoe, No. 5 Norrie – 4 Rune, and 8 seed de Minaur – 2 Ruud.

The semifinals could pit Carlos Alcaraz-Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud-Holger Rune.

The top seeded Alcaraz opens with Mackenzie McDonald with the winner of Daniel Altmaier-Brandon Nakashima next.

The second seeded Ruud opens with qualifier then gets the winner of JJ Wolf and a qualifier.

Among the notable first round matches: Taylor Fritz-John Isner and Yoshihito Nishioka-Frances Tiafoe. Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini also returns.

There are no former champions in the field but both Fritz and Norrie have made the final. Norrie has made the finals of his last two events.

Last year, (4) Rafael Nadal defeated (6) Cameron Norrie 6-4 6-4.
