Nadal Notches 91st Career Title, Defeats Norrie In Acapulco
Rafael Nadal nearly retired from the game three months ago. Now he’s a perfect 15-0 on the year with three titles after winning the Acapulco trophy over Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4.
Nadal’s fourth Acapulco title is also the 91st of his legendary career, and his third of 2022.
Nadal grabbed an early break in the first set but Norrie would fight back from a break down in the second to push Nadal heading to the finish line.
Nadal’s power and movement, though, was too much for Norrie who came in on an 8-match win streak of his own.
“I went through some very difficult moments during the match that I was able to save, and then I took advantage when I had the chances,” said Nadal. “I’m very pleased. It was a very important title for me, so I can’t be happier.
“Cameron is a very solid player, a tricky player,” Nadal added. “He makes you feel that you cannot play comfortably against him at all.”
Nadal now has 25 career titles on hard court and this was his 30th without dropping a set.
“I played against him before, so I had an idea on how to play him, but I gave him a couple of easy points and he gave me nothing,” said Norrie. “It was little bit of lack of concentration, and I gave him the match.”
The 35-year-old Nadal will now take a week off to vacation before the Indian Wells and Miami double ahead.
