Lone Top 20 Caroline Garcia Stars In WTA Monterrey Field

Former finalist Caroline Garcia headlines the WTA 250 event in Monterrey, Mexico.

The world No. 5 made the finals in Monterrey way back in 2015. She’s the lone Top 20 entrant this year.

Top seeds are: 1 Caroline Garcia, 2 Marie Bouzkova, 3 Donna Vekic, 4 Elise Mertens, 5 Lin Zhu, 6 Katerina Siniakova, 7 Mayar Sherif, 8 Elisabetta Cocciaretto.


No. 1 Garcia is projected to meet 7 Sherif in the quarters, No. 4 Mertens – 8 Cocciaretto, No. 6 Siniakova – 3 Vekic, and 5 seed Zhu – 2 Bouzkova in the bottom quarter.

The semifinals could see Garcia-Mertens and Bouzkova-Vekic.

The top seeded Garcia opens with Kaja Juvan then gets the winner of Nuria Parrizas Diaz-Xiyu Wang.

The second seeded Bouzkova opens with Anna Karolina Schmiedlova then gets the winner of Jule Niemeier or a qualifier.

There are no former champions in the field. Former finalists are Garcia, Osorio and Bouzkova.

Last year, (2) Leylah Fernandez defeated (5) Camila Osorio 6-7(5) 6-4 7-6(3).
