Top seed Caroline Garcia stormed into the Monterrey semifinals, cruising past No. 7 seed Mayar Sherif 6-0, 6-4.

The 5th-ranked Garcia hit three aces, won 25/29 (86%) on first service points and never faced a break point. The Frenchwoman won the first seven games of the match. Then converted the only break point of the second to win the match.

Into her 28th career WTA semifinal, Garcia will take on former Top 10 Elise Mertens. The Belgian breezed past the 8th-seeded Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-2, 6-2.

Garcia has the better of Mertens 4-2 in their tour-level battles, and was victorious in their last meeting at 2022 Cincinnati last summer.

No. 3 seed Donna Vekic joined the semifinal party ousting Mertens’ countrywoman Ysaline Bonaventure 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(7-5). The two exchanged early breaks in the decider with Vekic having two more break chances later followed by four match points before coming through on her fifth to reach her 16th WTA semifinal.

The Croatian will now face No. 5 seed Lin Zhu who got by Caroline Dolehide of the United States 6-3, 6-2.

Vekic was victorious in their only previous meeting at 2015 Baku R16.
