In Austin at the inaugural ATX Open, Danielle Collins rallied from a set down to defeat Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

The 29-year-old Collins took nine straight games from 2-1 in the second to break the match open. Kalinskaya had won six straight from 3-1 down in the first.

Collins is a perfect 2-0 in tour-level head-to-head meetings with Kalinskaya. In her 12th career semifinal, the American will take on No. 8 seed Marta Kostyuk who defeated Anna-Lena Friedsam 7-6(8-6), 6-2. Collins and Kostyuk have never played.

“Very aggressive player, she’s been having a really great year so far,” Collins said to the WTA of Kostyuk. “I’ll have to be ready to get back some really strong shots and just go out and try to play my best tennis, because that’s what it will take to beat her.”

Former US Open champion Sloane Stephens was upset by the 88th-ranked Varvara Gracheva 7-6(7-4), 6-3. She’ll face the 21-year-old former American junior star Katie Volynets who defeated NCAA champion Peyton Stearns 7-5, 6-3. Both were in their first WTA quarterfinal.
