2023 French Open Seedings – Men: Alcaraz Set For Debut As Grand Slam Top Seed
For the first time and likely not the last time, Carlos Alcaraz will be a top seed at a Grand Slam event.
Following his Rome Masters result, the 20-year-old jumped back to No. 1 this past Monday and will be the top seed at the French Open which begins on Sunday.
Alcaraz, who missed the Australian Open, comes in as the tournament favorite and winner of his last seven matches in Slam play after his incredible US Open triumph.
Thanks to his amazing Rome Masters title run, Daniil Medvedev moved up to the second seed for the third straight year. The Russian had lost his first four matches in Paris before making the quarterfinals in 2021 and the fourth round last year.
One of two former champions in the field, third-seeded Novak Djokovic looks for a second Career Slam and sole possession of the overall Grand Slam title leaderboard with 23. But he could run into Alcaraz in the semifinals.
2022 finalist Casper Ruud is fourth and the pressure will be on the Norwegian to defend a hefty amount of points from last year.
Former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas is fifth, though the Greek seems to have some issues off court with coaching and his mom.
Holger Rune is sixth after his incredible season. The 20-year was a 9 seed in Melbourne and ranked 40th at Roland Garros last year.
If the French Open adheres to the ATP rankings and no further players withdraw, here are the Top 32 seeds:
