Fernandez Holds Off Siniakova In Marathon For Hong Kong Title
At the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open in finals action Leylah Fernandez won a thriller over Katerina Siniakova 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to win her third career title, first of the season.
“We had a very, very hard past couple of years,” Fernandez said the WTA after her first title since Monterrey. “My family, my parents, my coach, and my performance coach stayed by my side,” Fernandez said. “They motivated me to keep going and the hard work is paying off. Hopefully, we can keep going this way.”
The 21-year-old Fernandez finished 5-of-14 on break chances.
Siniakova won won more point than the Canadian in the match and also broke five times, though at 4-all was broken and that was the end.
Siniakova was seeking her 5th career title in her 9th final.
