Pegula Wins Seoul Title Over Yuan Yue
Top-seeded Jessica Pegula captured her fourth career title defeating Yuan Yue 6-2, 6-3 in the final in Seoul.
Pegula improves to 4-5 in finals after the win Sunday. She lost just one set all week and she ends her 3-week Asian swing 9-2 with a Tokyo final as well.
“This one is extra special,” Pegula posted on social media. “I am half Korean. I don’t speak and I am still learning about my culture (my mom was adopted and left on a doorstep of a Korean police station) but I have been overwhelmed by the support from Korean fans. My mom visited her orphanage here when I played this event 4 years ago. It was the first time she felt open about learning about her past. Her health struggles the past year made this tournament a goal to win. It has been such an honor to play in front of you.”
Pegula won eight straight games from 2-1 down in the first to go up 3-0 in the second.
The 53rd-ranked Yue was playing in her first WTA final, let alone semifinal or quarterfinal.
