Might Rafael Nadal have already played his last grass match? It seems so.

Following a loss today at the French Open to Alexander Zverev, Nadal said that playing one last Wimbledon is probably not in his future.

“Looks difficult, honestly,” Nadal said. “For me now I can’t confirm what’s going on, but for me now looks difficult to make a transition to grass, having Olympics again on clay.

“So I cannot confirm anything. I need to talk with team. I need to analyze so many facts. But I don’t think it’s going to be smart after all the things that happened to my body now make a big transition to a completely different surface and then come back immediately to clay, no?

“Today I feel that’s not a good idea, but I can’t confirm. But my feelings is even if I am booked in Wimbledon because I had to, I don’t think it’s a positive idea right now.”

With the Olympics on clay in Paris and with his injury issues, Nadal sounds like someone who doesn’t want to risk the transition from clay to grass then back to clay. Nadal is a 2-time Wimbledon champion who won his last match there beating Taylor Fritz in five sets in the 2022 quarterfinals.

Nadal still has plenty of time to make a decision with Wimbledon well over a month away.
