Federer and tennis – just made for each other! He’s very clear cut in his opinions and some of his opinions have great insight. It helps that he is quite articulate in multiple languages and doesn’t have to bumble like most players do.

conditions being slower at night! that is true for most outdoor courts, as the air is heavier at night than during day time.

We have never seen a Fed/Nole GS final,or a Muzza/Rafa final,plenty of Fed/Rafa,Nole/Rafa,Muzza/Fed,a Fed/Nole final would be nice,as i like both players but im not a fan of either,other than of their tennis(if that makes any sense,i mean im not emotionally invested in either player,so i can enjoy it as a neutral),i would enjoy a Rafa/Muzza final as i am a fan of both,so i would be delighted either way.

Hi Alison, well most Novak fans would be happy Ferer in Novaks half but you never know in tennis…delp.Bedrych,Tsonga and others can make surprise and beat Novak on the way to final.Last year in AO, Novak had difficult draw and won tournament, in US Open his draw was relatively easy and did not won….so, I don’t get relax with ‘easy’ draws…I don’t get relax until Novak wins or loses for that mater (then I acutally enjoy watching tennis ’cause I’m not emotional with other players…)

Hi Courbon,i relax more when its neither of my two favorites,i suppose as silly as it sounds i enjoy matches more when im neutral about which player wins,when its one of my favorites im so stressed out,i enjoy it but i dont at the same time,if that makes any sense lol,when both players are your favs they face each other its nice because your happy either way with the outcome of the match,your right though anything can happen,matches are played on a court not on a blog,and its different when your on the outside looking in as upposed to the inside looking out,every game is different,i think many would expect Rafa to roll Rosol 99 times out of 100,but it only takes one occasion,and the sensible amongst us dont like to take anything for granted and be left with egg on their faces.

Just reading some posts on Bleacher report forum,and theres a poster on there called Steve Gerard who sent in a post which was identical and i mean word for word to one that Dave sent in on the ouch Rafael Nadal pulls out of the Australian Open due to a stomach virus thread only a few weeks ago on this very forum,im just wondering if this the same poster with two different identities or another poster whos read this forum and copied Daves post and put it on another forum?if other posters actually had a look on Bleacher Report they would see what i mean,Dave if your out there could you please clarify if this is actually you.

@ sandra, it looks that way at first glance but if you analyze it closely, he’s got a good record at thos in his qtr. Davey might have returned to form but he has problems over 5 sets. He handled Tomic pretty easily last time. The only one who gave him a tough time was Raonic but he hasn’t shown any form yet and might not make it to rnd 4.

Muzza has a not too bad draw IMHO. Delpo and Fed could either be potentially bruising contests or ones Andy may deal with somewhat comfortably.

I still back fed to be able to make the SF despite the draw.

He DEFINITELY has the toughest draw and feasibly could get KO’d very early in the tournament. But at the same time he may be at his best from the start and play at a high level that carries him through the draw.

It’s a tough one, right now it’s nole (LOL, as if he needed the help!) v muzza in the final for me most likely!

And there they will meet a fresh, in form player who has not dropped a set. Whilst they on the other hand most probably will be bruised by facing some serious competition.

Yeah, Murray is not so bad on the front half, but quarters on- delpo, fed, novak. Hellish. But if any of my faves (fed, Andy m, Juan Martin) win this thing, then it will be an amazing feat! As it stands, i will be shocked if novak doesn’t threepeat down under, but wish the best to my guys!

I can tell you that the match of the round one is Hewitt / Tipsarevic. From what I have seen so far at Kooyong Hewitt is good and fired up. If I am Janko I would be less than pleased with having to play Hewitt in the first round infront of Aussie crowd in Rod Laver Arena.
As for Raonic, he doesn’t look as sharp as I think he should and can be but then again, this is only Kooyong.

DELPO: Andy has a good record against him and a very nice match up. I think he should be fine in that one hopefully.

FED and NOLE: He was going to face both pretty much anyway IF he were to go all the way so i do not see any major problem here considering that aspect.

To get to the final: Would Andy rather face Fed or Nole?

I think he like many would want to face ANYONE other than the 2 time defending champion, world no.1 and king of hard courts!

So all in all whilst I completely agree that it’s a VERY TOUGH week 2 schedule when one looks at Andy’s situation going into the AO, then realistically IMHO it hasn’t worked out all that bad at all!

I think a worse draw for him would have been:

Berdych – Djokovic – Fed in final!

It doesn’t work that way, we have seen so many times that things change during competition and somebody’s draw opens up suddenly and what was easy becomes not so easy draw and the other way around. Besides, I can see Federer making SF with no big problems on the way !

Both Murray and Nole have worse records against Ferrer than against Del Potro. Murray is 6-5 over Ferrer and 5-1 over Delpo. Interestingly, though, Delpo and Andy have not played since 2009.

You are right, Fed is in a strike of 9 straight AO SF back to 04′. Could he make it a 10th time?! I know he holds the record of most matched won in AO with 63.

Federer GS match wins by Slam;
– AO (63) Record holder (nobody in sight to challenge him)
– RG (54) Trailing Villas (56), next close is Nadal (52)
– WM (66) Trailing Becker (71) and Connors (84)
– US (64) training Lendl (73), Agassi (79) and Connors (98)

So by the end of this year, he will be also RG most matches won record holder assuming he reaches 1 less win than Nadal, or record co-owner with Nadal if he reaches 2 stages less than Nadal

He can surpass Becker in Wimbledon or stay joint second place trailing only Connors. To be record owner he needs 18 more wins to share the record and 19 wins to own it, which means he needs to play 3 to 4 more Wimbleodn (until Wimbledon 2016), asusming he will win more than 4-5 matches per year to surpass Becker record.

By the time Fed retires, if he plays 3-4 more years and depending on Nadal’s success in RG (uf he keeps winning at will), Fed could be the record holder of most matches won in 3 of the 4 Slams (AO, already is; RG could became this year; Very likelly) missing only US Open, where he needs to win 34 to share, 35 matches to hold. An almost impossible feat at his age, that one will stay with Connors.

He also have the most matches win with 247 and I think he wants to go beyond 300 (53 more matches – 3 years)Grand Slam match wins, making him the greates Grand Slam PLayer of the open era. Well, he already is!:)

I think Roger has strong reasons to say this. Noval is indeed the favourite. This Australian Open somehow is quite easy to predict especially with the absence of Nadal. With all things holding good, I see Novak lifting the title on the boxing day.
