@django …….I want him back too! He has had his woes, but I always said he would ruin his arm, he hits way too hard. Can you hit too hard in regard to tennis???? Curious….

He’s probably the most universally well-liked player among the tennis-xers. Man, how great it would be to see him get back to that ball-crunching form! Its a dream, but if he can believe in it, I guess we can play along.

@J-Kath…..Thanks for the warm greetings! I appreciate your shout out to me. We had Byron’s funeral service last Saturday. It was a great service. My son and daughter in law stayed three nights with me and Saturday I told them to get home and sleep in their own beds….that I had to jump this fence sooner rather than later. I made it fine. My son went to Carlsbad, New Mexico to work…..now that was hard on me, but he’s got to work where the work is. He’s a welder. His business cards say “Have Rods, Will Travel” and does. He’s been everywhere. Thanks again, Kath!

Hes 27 years old now,and hes not played in a long time,and the game continues to evolve,i like him and i wish him all the best,but i think ill wait to see him playing again before i start predicting big things for him,after all these things dont happen over night,sometimes they dont happen at all,i wish him all the best though….

Delpo, Cilic, and Gulbis – Class of 88′, jane, remember? Was very excited for them in 2009.
All three now 27. Still time for all ;)

Delpo especially, though. TV is right, I think Delpo is a favorite on Tennis-x – haven’t seen any anti-Delpo’s. Maybe when he gets back he’ll start beating everyone – then, we’ll see.

Hope he pulls a wawrinka and steals some slams in his late age!

Truth is this guy was a phenomenal talent. One that the likes of Federer, Nadal circa 2009/2010, even Uncle Toni, touted as future number 1 and marked as the real deal. And how can you blame them?

A born fighter who showed he can fight with the best, on the biggest stage all day long and he won’t flinch. And then there’s the game.

Huge serve, FH, BH: there ain’t a player he couldn’t floor on the court. No one. In full flight this guy was virtually impossible to contain.

It’s such a shame what happened to him and I hope he can return, play for long, untroubled period of time and taste success since really this guy was the real deal and lacked for nothing.

Jalep lol no problem,EG has alot of talent no question,but i just cant stand his attitude sometimes,and the way he speaks about women yuck,but as i say i do appreciate he has a lot of talent,and maybe hes grown up and matured and hopefully hes now taking his tennis seriously,and about time too lol….

Not defending “British mperialism” for one nanosecond, it is indeed part of our shameful past.
But in this instance Spanish, French and Dutch imperialism all contributed to the massacres of Native Americans. In fact, I think first massacre can be attributed to the Spanish.
And of course disease too, either small pox or flu, I believe.

Yes Margot, thought I’d get in before someone else brought up “they who live in glass houses….” –

….”colonialism/imperialism” seems to be the latest redress subject. Jamaica is claiming “pay-back” from UK gov. for the land grabbing of the past – I worked with a young Jamaican and his tale of the Brits usurping his family’s entire plantation was troubling.

There’s lots of issues e.g Highland clearances; Ireland-potato famine…..

…I watched that series on Convicts in Australia and oh my – it really affected me…the whole human range of misery and response…great TV it was though…..

@Margot……Thanks for asking about me. Yes, I miss my baby boy. He’s been so attentive to me since his Dad’s death. He really hated to leave me, but life goes on and his Dad would have said get to work! I do need to start flying….as I’m missing out on trips…..some tennis trips, maybe??? Lol Yep, I need to get over that fear I have.

When I think of DelPo, the best US Open ever, was the one when he won it. Some great matches! Boom, boom, and boom….knocking out top players, wow, I loved the USO that year. Help me out, 6 or 7 yrs ago?? Losing track. But hate that he’s had all of the injury problems, but I certainly understand why, he hits with lots of force.

My husband’s father had a 200 acre farm, and I can’t begin to tell you how many Indian arrowheads he found on the property. A new pipeline came through it a year ago and Byron found another one. He had a very nice collection. Byron’s younger brother got it. Live to hunt for them…..fun hobby!

Okie it was 2009,when Delpo won the USO,so 6 years ago now,and yes indeed he played incredible that year,alot like Cilic last year,it would seem now that they might both have been one offs,time will tell though i suppose?….

Thanks, Gypsy Gal….I took a wild stab at it…so 2009. Wow, 6 years ago. Poor DelPo…..injury plagued way too long for the tennis circuit! Get back in the mix, Jaun! OKIE is pulling for you! Novak needs some tougher competition!! His fans don’t want him to just kill everyone….You know the weak era theory?? Teasing all of you Novak fans….he’s just so much better than everyone else atm….i don’t think weak era has anything to do with it….I realize some don’t agree…been reading comments about the issue. Has he peaked at 28? That is an odd age to peak, I’ll have to admit. Not sure about his age, too lazy to look….

Finally forced myself to see Schindlers List at a friends’ house — didn’t make it through it.
Rabbit Proof Fence — love Peter Gabriel soundtracks but have yet to see it.

That’s one reason tennis and cycling come in handy, mindless diversions. Everyone needs lots of diversions.

Margot – Wish I had seen Rabbit Proof Fence – my start-up for missing movies starts January…I love good films – hasn’t been poss. for a wee while – moan, groan….seem to remember reading a book about it—long time ago?

There’s too much to repair in the world and we continue to permeate into it – read somewhere that China (who is being courted by GB) have nominated Mugabe for some sort of award…!!!

My coach predicted he would have problems with his wrist when I told him I was a big DELPO fan. I hate to see him out of the game. Wouldn’t it be better to go for a one-handed backhand? I know it’s a big learning curve, but after so many surgeries it seems like a better idea. Hope you come back DelPo!

For him to get back in the mix he would need to stay injury free for at least two years. Not sure if that would work out. Just a shame when a promising career goes away like that.
