Novak Djokovic Imitates Maria Sharapova (Again) [Video]

The clown price of tennis, Novak Djokovic, is at it again. In this latest viral promo from HEAD tennis Djokovic imitates Maria Sharapova (again).

Djokovic swore off his on court imitations years ago, but for the sponsors he gave us one more.

The video is part of HEAD’s new YouTek Instinct campaign. Sharapova original is here.

“Well, here is an even better version, I think… what do you guys say? ;)” Djokovic countered on facebook this morning.

Djokovic and Sharapova are both playing this afternoon on Center Court at the Western and South in Cincinnati. Djokovic plays Radek Stepanek while Sharapova meets her countrywoman Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Amazing that Maria and Nole are still friends, after these many imitations of Maria by Nole.
Btw, which is better racquet…Maria’s Instinct or Nole’s Speed?
I have a Speed, I like it, don’t know about Instinct.

Novak can have a career after tennis–as an impersonator. His imitation of Maria is spot-on, and it’s hilarious because it’s masterfully restrained–the right-shoulder shrug, the tinkering with the racket as she turns around, the serious mien before she serves–Maria does all that. Nole becomes more likable when he does this, and Maria is so endearing because she takes it all in stride. Bravo to both.

Contrast this to Soderling’s imitation of Nadal. It’s not funny because it’s mean-spirited. In much the same way, if Nole mimics Maria’s double faults–no one will laugh. We love Maria. We don’t want to be reminded of her double faults. Not funny. (Speaking of which, she needs a better coach; one who can teach her to serve better. Paging Mr. McEnroe or Mr. Roddick, if his wife doesn’t mind. Correct that service motion and Ms. Sharapova will win more Grand Slams , at least five more.)
