Rafael Nadal’s ninth French Open title was commemorated by Nike in the coolest of ways, with a life sized sculpture of Nadal made purely out of red clay!

The Nadal sculpture will appear in the window of the Cinquième Set store in Paris, accompanied by a plaque that reads: “Legends are made from different stuff”.

TennisVagabond.com Says:

AWESOME. But a permanent statue would be more fitting for a permanent champion.

Polo Says:

Nadal may be the King of Clay but he certainly does not have feet of clay. I have no doubt that someday, a more befitting statue will grace the grounds of Roland Garros.

Eric Says:

truth to materials?

Michael Says:

For all his achievements, Nadal deserves this and much more. I think Roland Garros should be rechristened as Rafael Garros to honour this Champion.

Margot Says:

Brilliant! And well deserved!

Margot Says:

@Michael
But thanks to tennisx it has been re-christened, is now “Roland Harris.”……….;)

metan Says:

WOW! This is the coolest stuff. We can’t get a picture with real Rafa and this is the replacement. Hahaha!

@ Michael.
I thought Rafa needs double digits in order to do rechristening. :-)

Patson Says:

@Margot

You won’t let that go lol.

Michael Says:

Metan,

With the way Rafa is dominating Rolland Garros, I would not be surprised if he amasses a dozen over there. In fact, Tony has now itself fixed his sights on Title No.10.

Perfect fan Says:

That is “touching”….

Beautiful stuff, indeed!

Andrea Says:

That,s pretty crazy. Nicely done Nike.

RZ Says:

No fair. They never made a statue out of grass for Sampras or Federer. LOL.

Seriously, that clay statue is pretty cool.

Christine Clarke Says:

They have made a statue of sampras or Federer because they haven’t done anything that hadn’t already been done before. William Renshaw won 7 Wimbledon titles. No one had ever won 8 or 9 till rafa came along. Thats making history

RZ Says:

Christine – I was joking. The idea of a statue make out of grass is ridiculous.
