Legg Mason: Roddick’s Giving Away Tickets
Andy Roddick announced that he’ll be giving away tickets to the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on Wednesday at a yet-to-be-determined location in Georgetown. ADHEREL
But here’s the catch for 150 lucky fans: You need to follow his Tweets, be prepared around lunchtime on Wednesday, and show up to the location with a stub showing that you had purchased a ticket for Tuesday’s matches. Roddick’s give-away is all due to changes in the schedule of play, and the fact that many fans purchased tickets for the Legg Mason on Tuesday, thinking that Roddick would be playing then.
If you’re a tennis fan not following Roddick on Twitter, you might want to anyway. Not only are his Tweets fairly hilarious, Andy’s also thoughtfully announcing when and with whom he’ll be practicing so fans can come out and watch (FYI, today with Tommy Haas at 11am).
Bear in mind that the tournament is taking a bit of a financial hit for the give-away, which is both a brilliant idea and a good deed on Roddick’s part, but the weather and the line-up are great for tonight. So if you haven’t purchased a ticket to Tuesday’s matches, you definitely want to do that as well. Ticket sales to the tournament thus far have been the best I’ve seen in my decade-long love affair with Legg Mason, and though I have absolutely no scientific proof whatsoever, I’m attributing this to many staycations and the upgraded tournament status.
Tonight’s line-up is going to be stellar, featuring opening play by Juan Martin Del Potro, Haas (who seems to have a fan in one of our local anchorwomen), Juan Carlos Ferrero, Marin Cilic, Robby Ginepri, and Tomas Berdych. It’s also the first-round of doubles, with a slew of great matches on tap (OOP in pdf).
Single-session seats are still available, and if I may make a recommendation, saavy fans will do well to use the Ticket Exchange program through TicketMaster.
For those who haven’t made it out to the grounds, bear in mind that the players do love to get out and hang around in D.C., mainly in GTown, during their limited off-time. Roddick was spotted there last night as a matter of fact, as were a number of other players.
