Get ready Friday for the match we all want to see when Novak Djokovic faces Juan Martin Del Potro in the third round of the French Open.

Both guys won easily today with Djokovic earning his 41st straight match win defeating Victor Hanescu who retired due to a leg injury.

Del Potro also won in straight sets over Blaz Kavcic of Slovenia and that sets up the big showdown.

“It’s going to be a great match, a battle, and he has always had a quality to be at the top of the men’s game,” Djokovic said of Del Potro. “He is playing equally well on any surface. Big serve, great groundstrokes. For his height he’s moving really well. He’s just overall a top player for me. You know, he’s unfortunately had to take some time off because of the injury, but he’s coming back now. He’s feeling well, playing well. It’s going to be a big challenge for both of us, obviously a great match for people to see.”

In their head-to-head meetings Djokovic leads 3-0 winning all seven sets played. But the two haven’t met in over two years since 2009, which was before Del Potro’s big burst on to the tennis scene.

Del Potro adds that he and Novak are friends but that won’t stop him from giving his all. Though he admits he has very little if any holes in his game.

“No, not this year, not at all,” Del Potro responded when asked of the Serbs weaknesses. “I think no one managed to beat him, and there must be a very good reason for that. I think he’ll be No. 1 for a while. I’m his friend, and I’m very happy for him. But, at the same time, on Friday if I have to play against him, I’ll do everything I can to win.”

The 41 straight for Djokovic equals Federer’s best career win streak. On the year he has won 39 in a row, 3 away from McEnroe’s 42.

Jamie:
Really…
Lets see if he gets out of his half first.
He must beat Del Potro, then most likely Belluci and if he is really lucky Federer, to even get to the final.

He may get the number 1, but I am willing to bet Rafa will be holding the title.

Rain is scheduled next week so the courts will slow! If Rafa gets past week one, he will win RG for the 6th time. Its not a Masters 1000 tournament

Grand Slam Says:

Wow Jamie!!!!!! As much as I want Nole to win and hold the RG trophy I would never go that far and photoshop a picture of him with the trophy. Please don’t jinx him. It is still early!!!!!! I kind like the theory: “One match at a time!!!!!!!”
Hajde Nole keep your focus on your next match with Delpo!!!!!!
