Some good matches tonight in Washington. David Nalbandian, who caught fire a year ago at this time, opens his title defense against James Blake in the marquee match.

American teen Ryan Harrison opens in about 30 minutes against Mischa Zverev. The 19-year-old Harrison just reached back-to-back semifinals in Atlanta and LA.

John Isner is also on tonight against Tobias Kampke and in a match between two former Top 5 players on the mend, Tommy Haas battles Fernando Gonzalez.

Top seed Gael Monfils will play tomorrow against the winner of Tuesday Alex Bogomolov-Ryan Sweeting affair.

After an Atlanta title and LA final, second-seeded Mardy Fish withdrew yesterday from the tournament with a bruised right heel. Fish was replaced in the draw by lucky loser Wayne Odesnik who received a bye.

Former champion Andy Roddick withdrew from the field last week because of an abdominal injury.

jane Says:

Blake handled Nalby with no problems.

funches Says:

If Blake beats Isner, he’ll win the tournament.

That match will come down to a few points. Blake usually does not win those points, but I have a feeling he might do it this time. If he played Harrison in the quarters, he’d overpower him, winning in a similar score to the match today.
