WTA chief Stacy Allaster talked earlier in the week about an effort to combine both women and men’s year-end championship into one single tournament. Several players including Caroline Wozniacki reacted positively at the idea.

“I think that would be great,” Wozniacki said of the idea. “Just not in December. They should definitely cut their season if that was to happen, but I think that would be a good idea, a nice idea.”

She then all but acknowledged that the men’s tour is still the premier attraction. “I think we have — we have some very good players and some very big names, as well, so I think it’s — obviously they have Rafa and Roger and Novak and Murray really dictating most of it, but at the same time we have — I mean, you can just see out there today we also have a lot of fans coming and watching us.”

Maria Sharapova wasn’t as enthusiastic about a combined year-end event.

“It would definitely be nice to see, but I think right now our schedules are pretty far off,” Sharapova said. “They have another couple of weeks until they play the Champs, so, yeah, unless they make some drastic schedule changes, I don’t see that happening, you know, very soon, as we’ve already got a pretty set schedule knowing we’ll be here the next two years on these dates. But that would be nice. I think that would be a lot more fun for the fans to see the men and women together, yeah.”
