Novak Djokovic shook off the disappointment of a 5-set loss to Andy Murray in the US Open final Monday by hosting his first ever inaugural charity gala dinner Wednesday night in New York City.

Held at Capitale, the event attracted many big celebrities including Andy Garcia, fashion top model Anja Rubik, Sasha Knezevic, famous designers Donna Karan and Tommy Hilfiger, movie producer Milutin Gatsby, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and John McEnroe.

The dinner and auction raised $1,400,000 toward his foundation .

“What we want to do with our Foundation is to help and raise the awareness in Serbia of the pre-school education, and try to enable kids to have access to sport activities, facilities, to better nutrition, better education. This is the first event, so we are all very excited for it,” Djokovic said. “In partnership with UNICEF, we’re trying to achieve a lot, and to bring happiness and joy to our kids.”

The Novak Djokovic Foundation enables children from disadvantaged communities to grow up, play and develop in stimulating, creative and safe environments, with strategic community facility planning, development and financing, whilst instilling respect and consideration for their surroundings. The Foundation’s mission is to alleviate the suffering of children – especially in Novak’s native Serbia – whether from the lack of nutrition, education, from illness, or loss of family by providing necessary supplies and services to both communities and individuals.

Tom, thank you very much for posting it, so true and so many things in only five minutes.
Take a time and watch it, says much more than any post can say. Nicely done.

alison Says:

Wogboy he can take a roll in Men In Black 3, (AHEM) put it this way dressed like that he can take a roll with me any day of the week lol,so sorry my dirty mind took over me there for a minute lol,but seroiusly great work from Nole and his foundation.

Wog boy Says:

alison,

I wouldn’t call that dirty mind, just very human, at least IMO:)

alison Says:

LOL thanks Wogboy if you say so,Nole is definetly a fine specimen of a young man, very good looking.

grendel Says:

Alison and Wogboy – going back a good number of years, I knew a chap who had a real thing about Martina Navratilova. He wasn’t terribly interested in tennis, but he used to watch her display of nickers, glimpsed briefly as her dress flew in the wind, with great excitement. Movement is all. The tantalising briefness of the exposure simply enhanced the allure. He was a man with a great visual imagination and considerable verbal facility which he would employ, as he downed his pint, with force and verve as he outlined for us the precise details of Navratilova’s nether quarters, which he had gleaned from his eager inspection. He had no idea, of course, that Martina batted for the other side. Unlucky sort of chap, old Dominick, when it came to the opposite sex – but his enforced (and involuntary)abstinence was responsible for some ferociously eloquent disquisitions on the anatomy of a number female tennis players. None, however, were ever able to draw from him the degree of passion which Martina Navratilova inspired in him.

Huh Says:

funnily enough, my dirty mind’s stuck with jelena! man, i shouldn’t go before nole declarin this! ;)

lalala Says:

Great job Nole!
You are the greatest!!!
GO NOLE!!!

Gregoire Gentil Says:

According to Wikipedia, you have earned $40 million dollars in prize on the circuit so far. And that doesn’t include what comes from your sponsors. What about using your own money? ;-)

courtside Says:

Why doesn’t insanely rich Fed use his own money or Roddick use his own money?

Huh Says:

earnin is best done only by murray, he’sc already conjured up some 25 million $ as prize money winnin only 1 slam. now that’s unreal! nole has 5 slams yet just 40 million! so it’s murray who should do most of the charity work, usin his own money of course!

Huh Says:

add a wink at the end of my previous post here! ;)

Jamie Says:

That is wonderful.

courtside Says:

25 million vs. 40 million

Remember they earn approx. 2 million per slam. I don’t see the big commotion here, Huh.

15 million difference. Figure it out. 8 MS vs. 12 or 13-half a million per MS

jane Says:

Nice video of Nole visiting kindergarten on behalf on Unicef.

Tootie Says:

Novak, I saw you with Nik. I began crying. I have been praying for many months you would come to know Jesus personally as Nik knows Him. It is going to happen. Hallelujah! (By the way,I think you and Marion Bartoli would make a nice married couple).
