No surprise that Andy Murray’s home of Dunblane, Scotland collectively celebrated Andy’s big win on Monday. Murray beat Novak Djokovic in a 5-set epic to capture his first career Grand Slam title and become the first British man to bring home a singles Slam win in 76 years.

According to the BBC, Murray will return to Dunblane tomorrow for a special day of activities and commemoration.

“I can’t wait to get back to Dunblane to where it all began and share my US Open victory with everyone and thank them for all the support,” Murray told the BBC.

“It’s definitely going to be emotional, but it’s a very special place for me.”

Murray will end his trip by making a visit to his tennis birthplace, the Dunblane Sports Club.

Via their facebook page, the club is getting ready. “You may have herd the rumours that Andy is coming back on Sunday. Well its true The local hero is coming back to where it all started. It is going to be CRAZY in Dunblane on Sunday. The media coverage is huge, the number of people expected is HUGE.

“He is expected to be at the sports club by 1.30pm and we hope many of you will manage down to see him. There will be lots of road closures so probably best to come on foot. Afterwards members are welcome to join us in the club room for a glass of bubbly (or a cup of tea if you prefer!)”

Bubbly or tea? Wow, sounds like quite an event!

Here are some videos from earlier in the week.

Great videos. Hadn’t seen the Fallon one, but cute how they did the intro. Hope Dunblane enjoys the party! :)

racquet Says:

The Charlie Rose interview is great, very insightful. In fact, the whole interview is 20 mins long:

The Fallon appearance is also great. His awkwardness at being in the spotlight is endearing.

dunblane – sounds like one sorry place if he is their biggest hero!

BTW Margot, please try to ignore all the nonsense. You’re one of the most reasonable posters on this site.

Great photo racquet, thanks.

Jamie Says:

The pride of Scotland.

Margot Says:

Very low key celebration in Dunblane. So typical of our “shy superstar.” Gorgeous photo of Andy too :)
Thank you racquet, and jane from elsewhere. I’ve certainly found a lot of lovely virtual friends on here as a result of all this nonsense, so it’s an ill wind.
Will now try and ignore all those from the Stalin tendency. Soooooo tedious for all the genuine, excellent fans on here who just want to “talktennis”……;) and I apologise to them.
