Novak Djokovic ran his remarkable streak to 20 wins in a row in Asia after defending his Shanghai Rolex Masters title yesterday beating Juan Martin del Potro in the final.

After the match, an elated Djokovic looked ahead to what could be his biggest hurdle in 2014: the marriage to his girlfriend Jelena Ristic.

“That’s a kind of preparation that I never had in my life, so it’s going to be very difficult for me,” the 26-year-old Djokovic said. “I will leave most of the part of the organization for the wedding to my fiancee. I’m sure she’s going to handle it better than I do.

“I’m going to have to buy many gifts, that’s for sure.”

Djokovic and Ristic became engaged last month, no wedding date has been officially set.

Steve 27 Says:

He is so young to be married, but is his decision. Let see if that affect his performance in coming years.

Ben Pronin Says:

He’s not married yet, 27 isn’t a bad age.

hawkeye Says:

Too soon Nole!!!! Too soon!!!

(Kidding of course….. sort of)

After winning Shanghai, I fully expect Nole to take a wild card in Basel or Valencia. Basel is the bigger gamble with the stronger draw but potentially the more rewarding as he could also potentially limit Rafa’s points.

A third consecutive year end at No. 1 is very important to him. He’d be half way to Sampras’ SIX CONSECUTIVE YE’ No. 1’s. Currently of course, Fed has five but not consecutive.

Of course it is still very much on Rafa’s racquet to get his 3rd.

LOL, Novak. You’re the one getting married – aren’t your people going to be buying gifts for you?
:-)

M, many European cultures give gifts to usually large wedding parties and extended family. When invited to our Italian friends special occasions, I am amazed at the lovely gifts that guests receive, even at christenings and engagement parties

Nole at his best!

We have a tribute for Nole on our site

Click my Id and look for a post titled “the one that never went away”.

It was written a few years back but fits Nole to the tee! He never goes away, does he? :)

M Says:

Thank you, Suzette.

(More guys seem to be asking me out now who are European instead of American; I guess I’d better pay attention. LOL.)

Suzette, Says:

@ M yes, I have heard of European couples stag and doe parties that brought in up to $ 40.000. for the young couple. Astonishing isn’t it?
