Roger That Says:

I don’t think Roger needs to be playing this match. He should focus on getting ready for Melbourne and not get distracted.

Take good care of yourself Roger!

Go Fed!!!

majurej Says:

I think Roger does too much hollywood. Focus focus focus, but Hollywood offers a distraction and a way for him to let off steam.

skeezer Says:

Roger… Hollywood? Don’t think so. He chooses quality, with substance and meaning.
Rolex, Mercedes, Lindt chocolates, etc. And he chooses his charities well. Meaningful and Heartfelt, And the monies he generates forthwith to THE cause.
He doesn’t just take what is offered; like Kia, Crackers, Poker gambling, etc.
He’s his own man, and the great model of the modern days Tennis game.

Giles Says:

^^^ Yep, he’s very saint-like!! LMAO

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Skeezer i agree with everything you said about Roger, but i think exactly the same about your spanish friend too,its just that they do things in different ways, still just my take,no annymosity or anything.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Ive said it before, these exhos are merely a chance for players to try out new tecniques, to try and hone the skills ahead of the serious stuff starting, not taking things too seriously Rafa and Novak have done it,and now Roger and Joe are doing their bit too,all for a worthy cause so no big deal, must say Joe has the most adorable smile, hes a player i would love to see winning a GS such a talented guy.

hawkeye Says:

For everybody, good or bad, everything is compared to Rafa, no?

Suddenly, playing exhos is ok again. Real shocker.

Vamos!

Perfect fan Says:

Its gonna b great fun….jo n feddy r great pals and jo’s gonna do his antics for sure. I rly hope that roger too do some funny stuff lik imitating jo’s jump over the net lik he did last year while playing fed.

But, I ‘ll b absolutely delighted….if fed cud do the jo-jig (which he usually does aftr winning a match)…..may b somewhere in btwn or aftr the match. :)

Frankie Says:

Another fun night with two world class entertainers. Both Jo and Roger shine in these type exbos.

Humble Rafa Says:

As a goat owner, I have no say in such matters. Treat me with respect.

skeezer Says:

“Suddenly, playing exhos is ok again. Real shocker.”

Who’s the idiot who started it all by saying WTF was nothing more than an exho?
Lol.

skeezer Says:

^hope Tennis X does a write up on that. Great news, and yes, high class pros are signing up! This also assures Fed will be a force on the tennis scene long after he retires.
Allez Fed!

Anna Says:

Hey Skeezer how many Rolexes and Mercedes do you own? Roger best relates to the rich and over 50 crowd, which makes tennis look elitist and out of the mainstream. Rafa relates to men and women across the board. Also Rafa and Costa have had their own firm for a couple of years. The kid who just won most improved player signed with them this year.

hawkeye Says:

Anna, don’t be too hard on him – he’s just another case of everything in tennis being about Rafa one way or the other.

He is the Gold standard against which everyone else in tennis is judged.

Vamos!

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Anna/Skeezer,its not a slant on Roger, but as a working class woman with a working class husband,i couldnt afford a Rolex watch or a mercedes, and the only coffee i drink is maxwell house,i can afford a bottle of Bacardi, and a pair of Armani jeans,i have the odd tipple on the horses from time to time,i dont see anything wrong with the endorsements of Rafa or Roger, they are just different types of players,Roger may come accross as having more class but for me thats all a matter of perception anyway?,but many of his endorsements cater only for the rich in mind,Rafas cater more for the average man in the street that are at least affordable,Rogers classy and Rafas average, but been an average person myself i dont see anything wrong in that, just my take.

Skeezer Says:

@Anna,
I don’t think the masses project that. By representing those sponsors it shows success, not “oh, he’s rich”. It gives encouragement to those who aspire to be great, you will be rewarded. He got this stuff because he “earned” it, not because he was just a rich guy.
And can Tennis be elite and only for the well to dos? Do you know the Williams sisters? Read there story!

Steve27 Says:

My prediction: Federer will lose in 4 round or quarterfinals in the Australia Open. His streak of 10 sf in a row will end in 2014.

Anna Says:

Not everyone with money buys into the show Skeezer. Real class has no need for pretense. Of course the Kimye’s of the world always need a mentor. And don’t pretend you don’t know that tennis has struggled long and hard to present itself as a mainstream sport. The Williams sisters and many others have helped to change that image and make tennis what it is today. I don’t resent Mercedes or Rolex because they do bring money to tennis, but I don’t think their brands provide substance and meaning to Federer either. Silly.

Giles Says:

@Anna. Well said.

skeezer Says:

Like I said, it doesn’t look elitist and out of the mainstream. No more than Armani which is a relatively expensive brand name, no? Now representing Gambling, that makes another type of statement to me. Imo.
You go off on the accusation that he falsely caters to an age group, and ask how many of this and that I own.
Do you pay attention to other professional sports? Fed is not in a bubble by himself representing these well known and popular Global brands. They do provide substance and meaning, the Athlete endorses them.
And I would surmise even you and I can afford a box of Lindt chocolates. I think you may have mis understood my meaning originally. Maybe not, but C’est La Vie.

Okiegal Says:

Gambling……Rolex…….gambling……Mercedes-Benz……Gambling…….heck, if you win a million dollar poker pot……you could buy the watch and the car!! Hey, to each his own. Why pick to pieces what these two humble human beings choose to do??

Not judgemental in Oklahoma!!

Ben Pronin Says:

“Rafa relates to men and women across the board”

By wearing a $690,000 watch while he plays every match?

skeezer Says:

Giles should Say:
@Ben. Well said.

Patson Says:

Everything Roger does oozes class … even his poop LOL.

OK I admit it’s a bad joke. Keep going folks.

Anna Says:

I didn’t say Rafa doesn’t have wealthy supporters, I’m sure he does, he just doesn’t lend himself to the stereotype. Gold shoes anyone? How about a purse? In the meantime Rafa’s selling Kia’s to sports enthusiasts, cookies to kids from 3-60, and gaming and spirits to people old enough to imbibe, always with the message of using good judgement.

Skeezer – Now I suppose your going to tell me that drinking is evil!! Lol.

Roger That Says:

Like skeezer says it is all about the class with Roger.

I have especially liked the Lindt advertisment with the airport security ladies saying Roger must do a strip search! Very funny!

Nadal is not the only player with the sex appeal you know.

Okiegal Says:

My fav of Rogers is the jet commercial…….with all of his trophies in tow. Pretty funny!!

Giles Says:

@skeezer. Waiting for your mumbo jumbo response.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

I think i started something here,i dont believe theres anything wrong with what Roger or Rafa endorses its just they are completely differerent as players, and when people like to say Roger has more class than Rafa maybe he does i dont know?but surely thats all a matter of ones perception antway, like i said apart from the Lindt chocolates which are delicious,i couldnt afford a mercedes or a Rolex anyway, but i could afford a bottle of Bacardi,a pair of Armani jeans/briefs,the odd tipple on the horses, definetly not that watch he wears for matches though,i just think its unfair how Rafa gets so much stick for his choices though.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Roger That, Rafa is not the only player with sex appeal i agree, and again its all a matter of preference, theres plenty of players with sex appeal, theres plenty of men walking the streets with sex appeal.

Fruitcake Says:

I’ve been a longtime Fed fan… 12 years and counting … and know what? I’m not over 50, can’t afford a Merc or Rolex, don’t dress in designer gear, and don’t drink Moet + Chandon champagne. But then I’m not an inverted snob either … lol.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Ive been a diehard Rafa fan since 2005,and you know what? im not some teenager whos obsessed with what he looks like, wears armani jeans, drinks kool aid, bacardi or gambles either, and im not an airhead fanatic either, and ive always resented been put up on that type of pedestal, and like Fruitcake im not in my 50s only late 40s.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Just realised what i said in my post at 5.14am,just to say as a woman i would never wear Armani briefs,so nobody gets the wrong idea about me lol.

Perfect fan Says:

I m rly startled to see the topic of discussion in here….agn dominated by nothing but fedal….n wat else….”endorsements”.

I mean, wat diff does it make at all that wat all stuff dese guys r endorsing….unless its illegal. The top guys r grt players and they mus hav gone thru thick n thin….mus hav spent enuff tears, sweat n blood to b in a position they r rite now. As skeeze rightly said, they hav earned it. Unless u r not playing as grt as fed n rafa and not amassed records lik them, not as popular n lovable as them….u’ll b less likely to find big companies standing in queue at ur doorsteps. As simple as that.

But my point only is….so long we r enjoying our favs game n his accomplishments on court….wat way it matters to us anyway whether our fav or his rivals r endorsing mercedes or toilet paper.

I guess, I m not that big a fan :(

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Perfect Fan perfect post, who cares whos the greatest?the best looking?or does the best endorsements?they are both amazing players lets leave it at that eh?its not as if Roger and Rafa have been seen selling drugs to kids,or injecting heroin into their eyeballs.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Just wondering what actually happened in the exho, who won, after all thats what the thread was supposed to be about?

Ben Pronin Says:

Anna, I don’t know where you’re getting this from. You’re making a broad assumption for basically everyone. Kias suck.

Giles Says:

alison. Read text. To be played on January 8!!

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Yeah got that now thanks Giles.

Purcell Says:

Anna @ 2:17:
If you’ve ever been to live tennis you’ll know that Roger appeals to the under fives, under fifteens, under fifties and over fifties and Methuselah………. people of all socio-economic groups and all nationalities…..
When you see a crowd of eighteen thousand going nuts for his every move as we have seen every year at O2 and Wimbledon, it’s clear that this is a transcendent moment which has nothing to do with class, sponsors blah blah. It’s the way, even in his dotage, that Rog plays.
Sadly, Nadal doesn’t inspire that kind of ‘across the board’ interest as has been evident when we’ve seen him play live. And that has been many times including the Wimbledon men’s final between him and Djoker.
However, I dare say, the aforementioned pair will take over the Federer crown sooner or later.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

Purcell everything your saying is true about Roger, and hes arguably the biggest draw in mens tennis no doubt about that win or lose, but i think Rafa is also very popular across the board too the commies have often remarked about how popular Roger and Rafa both are wherever they go,sorry just saying.

Anna Says:

If you scroll up folks you’ll see that my remarks were in response to Skeezers comment at 12:01. Do I appreciate Roger for the incredible athlete that he is and for his humanitarianism. Absolutely. That’s what gives him “substance and meaning”, not his endorsements.

Purcell – I have been to said “live” tournaments and I’m afraid I can’t agree with you. I don’t carry an applause meter with me, but Nadal has incredible appeal and the applause has been just as great for Nadeal as Federer. Maybe the fact that Nadal has been playing in finals and Federer in quarters or semis has something to do with it, but Rafa is very well supported around the world, and as you say, as Roger’s career continues to wane, so will the applause meter.

Okiegal Says:

Never been to any live matches, but Rafa is very popular too! What amazes me in watching matches how the crowds will flip flop in a moment’s notice to see another set. I never flip to see another set. I want to see my man win in straights…….cards or tennis!!! LOL

Okiegal Says:

As per my post @1:30

It boils down to this: TENNIS FANS ARE FICKLE!!

Bad Knee Rules Says:

If you’ve ever been to live tennis you’ll know that Roger appeals to the under fives, under fifteens, under fifties and over fifties and Methuselah………. people of all socio-economic groups and all nationalities…..
———-
Correct, only a blind and deaf fanatic will deny it.

Tennis X Hippy Chic Says:

It always has to be one or the other,i just dont understand why it cant be both?lets just say both are popular and leave it at that?theres a song called this town aint big enough for the both of us,reminds me of this forum, all childish and tit for tat, agree with Perfect Fan its all getting rather boring now :((..

Bad Knee Rules Says:

@Purcell@12:04pm

Agree. Difference between Roger and the rest is that every ground is Roger’s home ground. Been there done that.

skeezer Says:

Clearly this shows he is not “Hollywood” and has been consistent in his efforts to a great cause. And his choice for endorsements is of the highest Global wide quality.
From tennis.com;
“Federer is passionate about the work of the Roger Federer Foundation, which will share in the proceeds of this special event.

“The foundation is very personal to me clearly. We are celebrating the tenth year of the Roger Federer Foundation on the 23 December, I can’t believe it’s actually been ten years, but we try to help kids, particularly in Southern Africa to have a quality education and so far we’ve been able to help 50,000 over the course of the last ten years … we have big goals for the future to hopefully help one million kids by 2018 so it’s really something I’m looking forward to, to try and help as many kids as possible have a quality education in the future.”
