During the first changeover of the third set, Rafael Nadal decided that was the time for a quick change of shorts, except he had to do it ON THE COURT! With the crowd whistling away as the local Friday night time approached 3am, Nadal put on the towel then went about his business adjusting his shorts correctly after putting them on backwards at the end of the second set – he did win the first game of the third set with his shorts on backwards!
With Nadal’s shorts now properly fitted, the move paid off as Rafa didn’t lost another game, blanking Pablo Cuevas 60 in the last set to reach the Rio semifinals in a match that ended at 3:18am.
