During a recent interview, Andre Agassi agrees, this is the greatest era of tennis ever.

“We are seeing the best generation of tennis today,” Agassi said last week during David Lloyd gym launch. “The Top 4 now – Murray. Djokovic, Nadal, Federer. These guys over the last 10, 12 years have redefined sor of the rules of engagement on a tennis court. This is really the golden age of tennis.”

Agassi also said he supports Jim Courier as USA Davis Cup captain and thinks Andy Murray will again be a Grand Slam champion.

20 Comments for Andre Agassi: This Is The Best Generation Of Tennis, It’s Really The Golden Age [Video]

SG1 Says:

I think Lendl’s era was more golden. Him, Borg, Connors, Mac, Becker, Wilander, Edberg et al. Even Sampras and Agassi at the back end.

Hippy Chick Says:

Andre rather contradicts himself here by saying Murray will win another GS,and that Novak could complete the Calendar GS on the other thread, but i suppose both are possibilities, anyway i hope Andre is right about Murray winning another GS,i think Wimbledon or the USO are the most likely?….

About the era i dont know if i would call it a golden era,but its still a great one anyway, ill let others decide that?….

Brando Says:

No it’s not at all.

SG1 is right: the 80’s had the Golden Era.

This time is benefiting from having probably the top 2 players of all time plying their trade right now.

Throw Fedal in any era and the luster and laurels for that era are automatic.

But Federer-as good as he is- is aged 33. When he hit 29, neither Djokovic or Murray were spectacular in that year: 2010.

And Nadal hits 29 this year.

So this is a false statement and really it’s riding on the glitter of the Fedal.

SG1 Says:

I think Andre’s trying to say that the tennis played today is the best tennis ever played which I guess I agree with. But, is this The Golden Era of tennis? Maybe a Golden Era, but not “The Golden Era”.

Hippy Chick Says:

Brando/SG1 have to ask, what do you both think of Murrays chances of another GS this year?….

Hippy Chick Says:

SG1 A Golden Era,but not THEE Golden Era LOL….

SG1 Says:

HC,

I think Andy’s got a chance. He’s arguably the best grass courter out there these days (…with Federer getting on in age).

I think that if Novak doesn’t win the FO, he’ll follow it up with a let down at SW19 which I think will open things up a bit which will help Murray even more.

SG1 Says:

HC…you think Murray’s got a shot to win a big one this year?

Hippy Chick Says:

SG1 I think/hope so,as i say i think W or USO especially W are his best chances, and as you say his game seems better suited to grass than Rafa(lol obviously)and Novak even though hes won the title twice, and Roger whos facing father time now?….

chris ford1 Says:

Brando – Top two players of all time???
No, just this era, and this era isn’t done, sure as you can say “Nole!”

lyle nubbins Says:

Now is the year the Joker to get the calendar Slam.

elina Says:

How could it not be the greatest era of all time when you have the two greatest players of all time in Nadal and Roger (not necessarily in that order), with Djokovic and Murray thrown in.

Just like Nadal, Agassi is right as usual.

Sidney Says:

Andy always has a great chance to win at W and USO.

If he gets lucky with the draws, which means not playing Rafa at all, his chances grow even greater! I just don’t think he has IT in him to beat a healthy Rafa in 5sets.

Sidney Says:

Agree with Andre! This is the Best! We’re privileged and spoiled to watch Rafa, Roger and NOVAK play one another!

Sidney Says:

Lyle, agreed. This year is Novak’s best chance for a sweep of the majors. Too early in the season, but we can hope…

Matador Says:

3 and a half men!

The Great Davy Says:

Only golden year of tennis was October and November 2009.

The Davy era.

Okiegal Says:

@Sidney 10:16…..I’ll drink to that!

sienna Says:
