Andy Murray Not Concerned About The New Baby Impacting His Career
Ahead of his first round match tonight against Tommy Robredo, Andy Murray talked to the assembled press Monday in Montreal revealing his excitement over news wife Kim Sears in pregnant with their first child.
“I’m not concerned about the impact it’s going to have on my career,” said Murray. “I’m more focused on the baby being healthy. It’s very exciting news for [Kim and I], and we feel so lucky. At the same time it’s private news and something we hope to keep to our family and friends. We hope everybody can respect that.”
In February, Murray will join other top players like Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka and Roger Federer as fathers on the tour.
The 28-year-old Scot, who lost in the opening round last week in Washington, won the Canadian open twice in 2009 and 2010. But he’s only made the quarterfinals in Canada once since his 2010 title.
“I’ve played well on the hardcourts this year,” Murray said. “I feel like I’m playing good tennis. It’s different conditions here to Indian Wells and Miami where the courts are pretty slow. Washington and here are quite quick.”
With a strong result this week, Murray could pass the idle Roger Federer for the No. 2 ranking.
