Earlier this week it was announced Caroline Wozniacki will carry the flag for Denmark at the upcoming summer Olympics in Rio.

“It is an honor for me. The Olympics really means a lot to me, and I have amazing memories from my previous two Olympic participations. I am enjoying being a part of the Danish team, and feeling the team spirit that I normally do not experience every day. To carry the flag in Rio will be one of the highpoints of my career and it will be something that I will never forget,” Wozniacki said.

Wozniacki will appear in her third Olympics after a third round finish in Beijing in 2008 and a quarterfinal effort in 2012 London.

“The Olympics is my biggest goal in 2016, and I am really looking forward to it. It will be a different Caroline than at the previous two Olympics. I have more experience this time, and I know 100 percent what it is like to be at the Olympics, therefore I am confident in achieving a good result in Rio,” the 25-year-old said.

RZ Says:

Not a good sign. The flag bearers didn’t fare so well at the last Olympics.

Cora Says:

I have a question, don’t you have to be good to be in the Olypmics? I mean she can’t even make it through a tournament, this is who they have chosen to carry their flag? Not good at all.

Wog Boy Says:

@RZ,

Tell me about that:(

Wog Boy Says:

Maybe she was chosen due to her multilingual qualities, she speaks three languages fluently (Polish, Danish, English..) and probably few more, you need them to be able to communicate in Olympic village, as for tennis, I don’t see her doing anything on that side, she had her five minutes of glory.

Django Says:

Nole must not carry the flag…..superstitious

RZ Says:

Also, it’s not as if the Danes are a summer Olympics power with lots of top athletes to choose from.

RZ Says:

BTW, I just read that Spain is considering Rafa as a flag bearer.

Cora Says:

I completly agree her time is over! Let someone else have an chance to actually win.

Van Persie Says:

Well, Penetta won the US Open last year, so her time is not yet over…
