Would you believe after suffering a shock loss to Jiri Vesely Tuesday in Monte Carlo, Novak Djokovic rode a bicycle back home?

No helmet for the Monte Carlo resident?

The loss was just Djokovic’s second of the season, and first at a Masters event since last summer. Djokovic credited the 22-year-old but added after a busy start to the season he was feeling some fatigue.

There is a proof nobody’s unbeatable. Happens so many times in my career that I lose a match. It’s not a first time.

Obviously it’s not easy to lose the match in terms of accepting it, you know, right after exiting the court. But I have to congratulate my opponent. I think he played very solid. He was serving very big. He was playing tactically good and aggressive.

On the other hand, for me, there were just very few things I could take out from today’s match as a positive. I was playing really, really bad.

But, you know, nothing taking away from my opponent’s performance. He deserved to win. When he was break up in the third set, he was playing bravely. He was coming in, dropshots, big serves. He was going for it. He deserved to have it.

Practice week went well in terms of feeling the ball. But I didn’t feel that freshness, you know, the entire time. Working hard obviously, trying to do my best on a daily basis.

But, you know, eventually this was going to happen. Everything happens for a reason. I’m going to get some more time off now, which I look forward to. I’m going to need some rest, physical and mental, as well.

Djokovic said the defeat won’t change things for the rest of the season.

“This match today will not disturb my preparation for the rest of the season and what’s coming up,” Djokovic said. “I’m still confident. I’m still feeling I’m playing the best tennis of my life. I’ll just rest, because sometimes that’s what is needed, then get back on the practice courts, adjust to this surface that is completely different from any other, and hopefully I’ll be better in the next tournament.”

Giles Says:

Reminds me of the expression ” On your bike” meaning ” Get lost”.

anki Says:

That is a 4,5 days old pic. He kinda looked sad exiting the court yesterday.

Pamela Says:

I missed the match. I work now and don’t have the time to come home at 5:00 to watch several hours of tellie. So, I decided to skip the match, thinking it was a no brainer and why bother. so, Giles, as you are the only one to leave a comment. Tell me about the match. Was the qualifier that good, Novak tired… or???

Pamela Says:

Oops!! Anki, you weren’t on here when I started my comment. Did you see the match? Any thoughts?

anki Says:

@Pamela, Terrible from Novak on the whole, way too passive at times, no footwork, so many errors, brain dead drop shots, couldn’t even outrally Vesely. Novak’s return was totally off. Vesely served great, tactically was sound, mixed it up a lot, didn’t give Novak any rhythm. Well deserved win for Vesely yesterday, who well lost 6-1, 6-2 to Monfils today, lol.

Aww Lovely pictures, just like any other normal guy, chilling out and relaxing, i love back riding, Novak and i have alot in common….

On the not wearing a helmet thing, i think for safety reasons you should, in case you fall off, as it can cause head injuries if your not careful ….

So please be careful Novak ….

^^^. Your posts get weirder and weirder.

Sort of refreshing to see a very wealthy star “commuting” to and from his local workplace by bike. Hasn’t gone the palace-building/buying route, either.
Saves on shoes too! Addidas tricks the whole family out, even son Stephan if you look at photos.

Giles @ 4.55pm, then dont read them, its your choice ….

Michael Says:

The problem here is if Rafa manages to win Monte Carlo then he might wrest back confidence and then knowing his clay court prowess, he might yet again become unbeatable on that surface and that will not be good augury for Novak who is still bidding for his first Rolland Garros title. Now, Madrid and Rome will become the key to regain back Novak’s confidence on clay. Let us see how things unfold !?

Green Lady Says:

@4.53am Giles its an internet bloody forum, by the way, Rafa played great against Wawa, anything to say about that ! ….

Michael Says:

The cycle ride will give him ample time to introspect as to what caused his defeat. It is evident that he is lost in thought and Novak just hates to lose !!

SG1 Says:

No helmet. Should be wearing. Skull and pavement aren’t usually compatible.

Terry Says:

Great that Novak shows the world that you don’t need to wear a helmet if you’re thoughtful while riding, focusing on what you’re doing. ‘Helmets’are for those who text, email & ride, and even that won’t help you. ……. Nice that he rides home on pedal power, and not in some gas guzzling SUV, or car. …… Let him have his quiet, down time, thinking what he could’ve done better. He’s quite the player, regardless of his small setbacks.
