Roger Federer: Winning Three Straight Against Rafa Makes Me Feel Really Good
Roger Federer did it again yesterday, even playing better than he did in Australian against Rafael Nadal, squashing his rival 62, 63 in the Indian Wells fourth round yesterday.
Federer trails 23-13 but for the first time has now beaten Nadal three straight times now and since switching to a larger racquet permanently at the start of the 2014 season, he’s 3-1 against Rafa.
“It’s a nice feeling to win the last three,” Federer said. ‘I can tell you that. But most importantly, I won Australia. That was big for me. On the comeback, I look back at that and think that was one of the coolest things I ever experienced in my career.”
Federer finished with 26 winners, 17 unforced errors and dominated on second serve points winning 75% of those serves, and had several winners off his backhand and only faced one break point.
Next for Federer is a rematch with Nick Kyrgios who beat the Swiss at 2015 Madrid.
“I’m very impressed him taking out Novak, back-to-back weeks, on Novak’s best surface,” Federer said. “I hope it’s going to lead to something great for Nick, that he realizes if he puts his head down and focuses that he can bring it, day in and day out, week in and week out.
“When it matters the most against the best and in finals, he’s there … Of course I’d like to get him back.”
