One of thew few titles not on Rafael Nadal’s incredible resume is the Miami Open, which begins today. Nadal has finished runner-up four times leaving Miami along with the Paris Indoors the only Masters events Rafa hasn’t won.

“Winning Miami is not an obsession. I would love to add Miami to my CV. The opportunities are not eternal, although I hope to have more in the future,” said Nadal. “I had four chances and in two of them I was very close. Normally, when you have those chances you have to take them.”

Nadal opens play Friday in Miami against today’s Dudi Sela-Ryan Harrison winner. On the year, Rafa is 14-4 with finals at Australian Open and Acapulco.

“I feel good. I have started the year well,” said Nadal. “In every match I felt that I performed well. Now I have another chance to do it and hopefully I will be ready.”

11 Comments for Rafael Nadal: Winning Miami Is Not An Obession

FedExpress Says:

When did Nadal win the Shanghai master?

DC Says:

When nadal says ‘no’ he usually means ‘yes’
Be on the lookout for Nadal being in top form and play like he did at AO.

Van Persie Says:

Rafa should make it to the final. He did it in 2008, 2011 and 2014. So he should keep the pattern alive in 2017 and win also this time, perhaps.

HJF Says:

It doesnt work like that ….

Daniel Says:

VP,

Don´t forget 2005, when he lost to Federer 3-2 after being up 2-0. Crazy 3 year pattern for him.

Van Persie Says:

Thanks, forgot about 2005 :D

Kimberly Says:

ryan Harrison lost today to Fognini. Watched the match. He didn’t play Dudi, Christian Harrison did

Aced out Says:

Nadal has not won two of the Masters and Roger three. Here’s another version of the Miami draw analysis … http://www.138mph.com/miami-mens-draw-analysis/

Daniel Says:

Aced Out

Roger only not won MC (which no longer is mandatory, but still 1000) and Rome.

Nadal hasn’t won Miami, Shangai (who replaced Madrid) and Paris.

They both won Hamburgo (when it was 1000) and Madrid back when it was HC.

tennismonger Says:

Coulda sworn Fed won Rome at least once…maybe I’m thinking of Sampras, another unlikely winner at the time.

Aced out Says:

For Nadal all this is just prep for the French Open ..
