Among the many highlights during Roger Federer’s thrilling win last night over Nick Kyrgios in the Miami quarterfinals was this “cheeky” tweener Kyrgios hit early in the second set.

And the way he hit it was like it was nothing. And to Kyrgios, this is common.

Interestingly (not in the video), Federer gave him nothing back in return. Afterward, he did say he was expecting those kinds of shots from the Australian.

“I was expecting him to do trick shots and all that stuff,” said Federer. “So I would’ve been surprised if he didn’t do it, or didn’t try to do those kind of things. For me, it was really important to do the same — try actually to also play the game that way. Make him feel that’s how I actually also play the game.”

Talbot Tennis Says:

If kyrgios can somehow get his head straight and focus more mentally, I believe he can become the next big thing in tennis. Hope he’s not another flash in the pan.
