Maria Sharapova Rises From No Ranking To 262
After just one tournament, Maria Sharapova has already gone from no ranking to No. 262, and it puts her close to entering on her own merits into the Wimbledon qualifying event.
Sharapova, who made the Stuttgart semifinals losing to Kristina Mladenovic in her return from a 15-month doping ban, is taking this week off to train before she returns for Madrid and then Rome, and if she does well enough in those events she could gain direct entry into Wimbledon.
She is still bidding for a French Open main draw wildcard, though rumors have her only gaining entry into the qualifying which she will now need as her 262 ranking likely won’t get her in on her own.
