Notes:

Tough starts for (1) Nadal vs. Pouille who he is 1-1 career against, (3) Dimitrov vs. the streaking Dzumhur (winner to likely meet Del Potro), and (7) Berdych vs. the streaking Donaldson (winner to likely meet Sock)…

Wildcards went to Del Potro and China’s Wu Di and Zhang Ze…

The all-star cast withdrawing from the event included David Ferrer, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga…

Murray, currently sidelined with injury, beat Dimitrov in last year’s final…

Can Nadal win and go 12 years between China Open tournament titles? That’s got to be an ATP record…

Djokovic, currently injured, has won the China Open six times and four years in a row from 2015-12…

Former champions in the field are Berdych (2011) and Nadal (2005).

12 Comments for Nadal Goes for 12 Years Between Titles at ATP China Open in Beijing

t4t Says:

I think Nadal should conserve his energy for Shanghai. His draw seems to be too tough in Beijing for 500 points.

Humble Rafa Says:

This tournament doesn’t pay enough. Can you math the prize money for the Laver Cup?

gonzalowski Says:

Pouille gets the 1st set. Both of them go to the locker room :(

Tough draw for Rafa, surface and tournaments uncomfortable for him … and I add the concern for the problems with Catalonia, can affect him???

gonzalowski Says:

Rafa has asked for more towels

gonzalowski Says:

Rafa miraculously escapes in this tie-break, raises 2 BP. I had never seen him place the bottles so meticulously in the breaks between games :)
The public encourages a lot in his favor

FedExpress Says:

What a choke job from Pouille.

Pathetic choke.

gonzalowski Says:

Fedexpress :)
interesting matches tomorrow, Kyrgios-Mischa Zverev
Dimitrov-Delpo Sharapova-Halep Stosur-Ostapenko

Willow Says:

Gonzolowski Some interesting matches, look forward to Dimi / Delpo, not so much Sharapova / Halep again, im sure if the match gets tight in Haleps favour, Sharapova will be digging into her bag of tricks, Stosur / Ostapenko could be a good one, have they ever met ? ….

Humble Rafa Says:

Catalonia certainly affects me. It’s a big deal for my mother land.

Willow Says:

Why is it a choke job, when ones least favorite player happens to turn a match around and win ? ….

gonzalowski Says:

Willow nope, they haven’t met

Willow Says:

Penko beats Stosur, Halep gets a win over Sharapova, hopefully this gives her confidence when they next meet ….
