Nick Kyrgios Gets Bored During Matches
Nick Kyrgios is never a loss for words or controversy. Yesterday, during a 3-set loss to Borna Coric in Miami, the Australian got a point penalty late in the match for something he said to a fan, and that followed his usual antics.
Afterward, he admitted he sometimes can’t fully engage in the match.
“Kind of got a little bored in the second set, like my concentration just started veering off,” Kyrgios said. “I was 40-15 up. I think it was maybe at 2-1 in the second. I started hitting, like, a Federer serve and stuff. I just lost a bit of concentration.”
And then he spoke about his interactions with fans courtside.
“They paid money to see me play, and they just scream out ridiculous things,” he said. “I’m just not going to take it anymore.
“I’m playing for two hours and 20 minutes, and a guy yells at me, like, Play some tennis. I’m not going to take it. So I said, F you, to him.”
In an early win over Dusan Lajovic, Kyrgios got a fan removed.
Addded Coric on Kyrgios, “He’s very nice guy. Also off the court, he always says hi. I don’t have any problem with it, honestly. Some players do. I understand that. It can be very frustrating, I agree. But like I said, for me, in our four matches or five matches, I didn’t have that.”
