Roger Federer opens his European indoor season on familiar ground in Basel. The top seeded Federer has reached the final of the event the last 12 times he’s playing. And overall, he’s won it nine times.

The Swiss will be joined by Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas who are both playing well this fall.

Also in the draw are Stan Wawrinka, David Goffin and Fabio Fognini.

Zverev, who made the semifinals a year ago, opens against Taylor Fritz, and is projected to face Benoit Paire in the quarters and then Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals.

Federer will open against Peter Gojowyczk in his 1,500th career match. In the quarters, Federer could face good friend Wawrinka then Tsitsipas in the semifinals.

In the first round, Goffin meets Marin Cilic, Wawrinka collides with Pablo Cuevas and Christian Garin gets Reilly Opelka.

Last year, Federer beat Marius Copil in the final.

Wawa-Cuevas a nice battle of the one-handed backhands.

Wawa in QF, but Federer is on fire and very high level against Albot (6-0 4-2). With their HxH on HC, hard to see Wawa winning on Friday.
