Simona Halep Out Of Palermo Due To Coronavirus Anxiety
Two weeks after signing up to player. Simona Halep withdrew from the August 3 re-start event in Palermo due to anxiety over the Coronavirus, she announced on twitter.
“Given the recent rise in Covid19 cases in Romania and my anxieties around international air travel at this time, I have made the tough decision to withdraw from Palermo. I want to thank the tournament director and the Italian ministry of health for all efforts on my behalf 🙏— Simona Halep” she posted.

Halep is still slated to appear in Prague the week after on August 10. Then potentially Cincinnati and the US Open. But if she’s not willing to travel to Italy, it seems like a stretch for her to go anywhere right now.
Cases in Romania have seen a spike recently and some countries, including Italy, are imposing restrictions for Romanians upon entering their country, though Halep was told she had an exemption.
Johanna Konta will be the top seed for Palermo.
