Daniil Medvedev: We Are Going To Try To Stop Novak Djokovic From Winning The US Open
Daniil Medvedev doesn’t want Novak Djokovic to win the US Open. And he wants to keep the Big 3 all locked at 20 Grand Slams…forever.
Speaking to the New York press today, the second-seeded Medvedev who made the 2019 US Open final and the 2021 Australian Open final is tired of finishing runner-up at Grand Slam level. He wants the big titles.
“Now I have two finals,” Medvedev said. “Need to win, to make a better result at a slam if I want to make it better.”
And with big titles means the Big 3, and specifically Djokovic, will not be winning.
“I’m going to try my best to keep it at 20 for all of them,” Medvedev added. “I’m sure Novak wants 45 slams, play till 55. But we’re here to try to keep up his level and to beat him.
“He was going for Olympics. Was up a set and a break against Sascha. Sascha managed to bring on amazing level to beat him. That’s what you have to do against him.
“We’re here to not let him win the US Open. If I talk just for myself, I want to win the US Open. I don’t care if it’s in the final against a qualifier or against Novak. I just want to win this tournament.”
Medvedev begins another chance at a Grand Slam title Monday against former Top 10 and US Open semifinalist Richard Gasquet.
