Rafael Nadal announced today that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The Spanish star was tested after arriving in Spain from the Abu Dhabi exhibition.

“On my return home after playing the Abu Dhabi tournament, I have tested positive for Covid in the PCR test that was performed on me when I arrived in Spain. Both in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi we passed controls every two days and all were negative, the last being on Friday and having the results on Saturday.

“I am having some unpleasant moments but I hope that I will improve little by little. I am now homebound and have reported the result to those who have been in contact with me. As a consequence of the situation, I have to have total flexibility with my calendar and I will analyze my options depending on my evolution.

“I will keep you informed of any decisions about my future tournaments! Thank you all in advance for your support and understanding.”

Nadal is scheduled to play Melbourne 1 starting on January 3, and the charter flights to Australia are due to depart in less than two weeks.

With mild symptoms, Nadal can still train in isolation and because he is vaxxed, he might be able to avoid a full 10-day quarantine with negative tests.

But the news is a setback for Nadal’s hopes for Australia.

My guess is Rafa will go if possible, because he wants to go. But now events are in doubt globally. Christmas events, Winterfests, Tennis, Hockey…
Omicron hitting Australia in a super wave is really messing with the AO/ATP Cup plans, not to mention the minor side matter of the impact on Joe/Josephine average Australian.
Forget all about Djokovic’s vaccine status. That is a side issue now.

I personally am in the camp of people that wants universal vaccination, masks when useful, no lockdowns but no mass gathering events until we get a handle on what Omicron is doing. Vaccination changed the way we should respond. New Cases! mattered when no vaccines existed because all the vulnerable were in danger if New Cases!! emerged near them. Now those vulnerable are vaccinated, and safe outside those either ignorant on risks or fearful and distrustful of authority figures in medicine and government.

The situation is now simply will society accept that lockdowns and vaccines just could not eradicate a designed in the lab supervirus? It is endemic, variants in all countries, wildlife populations everywhere, not going away.

Good luck to all the people in the WTA and ATP getting through this latest Covid challenge.
And best holiday wishes to all in case I don’t post again before the 26th.

If it’s true what they said on the news tonight means vaccination wasn’t really successful in America, more than 1/3 of population isn’t vaccinated?!
On the other hand, NSW has more than 95% rate of vaccination yet we are recording highest numbers ever of infected people, much more than when we didn’t have one single vaccinated person, go figure?!
I can read that Carlos Moua had a really bad symptoms even vaccinated and Rafa had them too.

Meanwhile, Chairman Dan abandoned AO after creating mess and left Craig Tiley to sort out the mess and find a way to bring players to Melbourne, vaccinated or not vaccinated.

You can enjoy yourself little bit of Hunchback from Victoria, in his case his ears are growing instead of the nose, I really feel for Victorians, Happy Georgian Christmas:

PS
I wouldn’t be surprised if he closes the borders again for us from NSW, the man is fit for asylum.

Novak withdraws from ATP Cup. Unclear why but looks like his request for a medical exemption is going right down to the wire. Australia is militant on the “vaccines” so this should be interesting.

“ The news of his rejection comes from Serbian daily newspaper The Informer.”
😂😂😂😂😂
Source of information is “The Misinformer”, can’t believe anyone in their right mind can quote that tabloid 😂😂😂

Let me repeat for the people with reading comprehension problems, Craig Tiley clearly stated that the only way to find out who got medical exemption and who is vaccinated is if the player itself reveals it, panel of medical experts will have only applications without the names in front of themselves, so they wouldn’t have a clue who did they grant one or who did they reject.

AO lost around $80 million this year, they can’t afford to lose it again, that would be disastrous.
Everyone noticed that Victorian government got suddenly quiet few weeks ago when top players started to withdraw due to “injuries”, even Chairman Dan said that he is happy for TA and Craig Tiley to manage the exemptions, distancing himself from AO, why such a change of attitude suddenly, was he tapped on the shoulder and told to back off?!
By saying all of these, Novak is under no circumstances safe bet that he will play, not because he won’t get an exemption or he is not vaccinated, but because he is yet to make up his mind about coming to Melbourne, one more thing, even Rafa suggested (between the lines) before contracted virus, that he is yet to decide with his team if he’ll travel to Melbourne, check his interview from Abu Dhabi, I am not going to be surprised if he comes out and say he is not “ready” for AO.
