Iga Swiatek confirmed her No. 1 ranking dominating the Miami field including her opponent today, Naomi Osaka, in a 6-4, 6-0 title win.

Swiatek has now won her last 17 matches and 20 straight sets. She’s also the first to win the first three Masters 1000 events to start the year, and the fourth player to win the “Sunshine Double” — winning Indian Wells and Miami.

“I just feel really satisfied and fulfilled and also proud of myself,” Swiatek said. “I feel like I have got to celebrate, because I don’t know how long I can keep up with this streak.”

The two began the match slugging it out, but Swiatek was making the inroads. She missed on break chances early but finally got ahead 3-2 and never looked back. Swiatek served out the set as part of a run of seven straight games.

“Playing against Naomi in a final was pretty exciting, and I knew that the world is going to watch, because it’s a nice match just to follow,” said Swiatek. “I wanted to give the best tennis I can so people actually can be satisfied. But on the other hand, just seeing that I can play that well against such a player is really satisfying.”

The Polish 20-year-old has won her last six finals and all in straight sets.

While Osaka came up short, the former no. 1 was appearing in her first final since her 2021 Australian Open title run.

“Iga was quite different from all the players that I’ve played previously, so it was a bit hard to adjust to what she was doing,” Osaka said. “But I think hopefully if I play her next time, it will be a much better match.

“I’m not as disappointed as I normally would be. Normally, I would be crying in the locker room or something, but now I’m kind of chill. I feel like I know what I want to do better, and I just want to go back and start training again to hopefully win a tournament next time.”

Swiatek will head to her favorite surface on the clay as the No. 1 player in the world and the favorite to win a second French Open.

“I learned a lot about myself, that I can keep going, and really I don’t need to feel like 100 percent on points to win matches against great players,” said Swiatek. “I can trust myself a little bit more right now. I really used that streak to have more confidence, and also the ranking.”
