Iga Swiatek v Naomi Osaka French Open Second Roud Highlights [Video]
Big French Open tournament favorite Iga Swiatek need 2 hours, 57 minutes and had a save a match point to knock out former No. 1 Naomi Osaka 7-6(1), 1-6, 7-5.
Down 5-2 in the third, Swiatek ran off five straight games to take the match and win her 14th straight at the French Open.
Osaka held a match point at 5-3, ad-in but Swiatek was able to punish the Osaka serve with a fabulous backhand out wide that forced Osaka into a backhand ball into the net.
At one point Osaka was 0-fot-8 on break chances in the third set, and 0-for-11 on game points.
Osaka finished winning more points, 114-109 due to that blowout second set win. But Swiatek was ahead 51-50 in that final set. She also won 16 of 21 points that went nine or more shots and five of six in the final set.
Swiatek as 37 winners to 32 unforced while Osaka cracked 54 winners with 38 unforced. And both serve proficient at the net – Swiatek 12/13, Osaka 9/11.
Osaka had 8 aces but won just 41% on her second serves. Swiatek won 48% on her second.
