Serena Williams: It’s Surreal To Be Back Wimbledon
Serena Williams met the media Wimbledon media for the first time in a year, and the legend was simply thrilled to be back in tennis again.
“It feels good to be back at Wimbledon. A little surreal sitting here again,” she said Saturday.
The 40-year-old will take the court on Tuesday in her first singles match in a year as she takes on Frenchwoman Harmony Tan.
“I didn’t retire. I just needed to heal physically and mentally. And, yeah, I had no plans, to be honest. I just didn’t know when I would come back. I didn’t know how I would come back. Obviously Wimbledon is such a great place to be, and it just kind of worked out,” she added.
Serena, the 7-time champion, doesn’t know what the future will hold, or if this could be her final Wimbledon.
“I don’t know,” Serena said. “I can only tell you that I’m here. Who knows where I’ll pop up next. You just got to be ready.”
