Medvedev Falls In Den Bosch Opener To Mannarino, Roanic Out; Sinner Fri
Daniil Medvedev was bounced in his grass opener Thursday by nemesis and former champion Adrian Mannarino 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the second round at Den Bosch.
Medvedev, who made the finals at the event last year, falls to 2-4 against the French lefty.
Mannarino finished five of six on break chances handing Medvedev his second straight loss after his big Rome title.
Milos Roanic’s comeback also ended as the Canadian went down to former finalist Jordan Thompson 7-6(7-4), 6-1. The 32-year-old Raonic had nine aces but also eight double faults and never broke the Thompson serve.
Thompson will meet Mannarino tomorrow. Mannarino won the title in 2019.
No. 4 Alex De Minaur dismissed Laslo Djere of Serbia in three 6-1, 6-7(5-7), 6-3. He’ll now get home hope and No. 6 seed Tallon Griekspoor sent off another Australian in Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-2.
Tomorrow’s ticket includes quarterfinal play led by No. 2 Jannik Sinner drawing Emil Ruusuvuori. Sinner has never lost to Ruusuvuori leading 5-0 in tour-level head-to-head clashes, most recently in the Miami quarters.
