Gasquet Gets 600th Win Beating Tsitsipas In Stuttgart; Musetti v Tiafoe QF

French veteran Richard Gasquet set a milestone claiming his 600th career win Thursday and doing it style upsetting top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas i7-6(10-8), 2-6, 7-5 in the second round in Stuttgart.

“It means a lot. It’s incredible,” the 36-year-old Gasquet told ATPTour.com. “You don’t think it will happen, this number in my career. Of course I played 20 years, but you have to win many matches. I knew I was at 500-something at the start of the year. It’s incredible for me to reach 600 matches.”

Gasquet was just 2-of-10 on break chances while Tsitsipas smacked 19 aces. But broke the Greek to win it and become just the fourth active player to reach 600.

“Stefanos is one of the best players. It was a big match,” added Gasquet. “I had to play great to bother him and I could do it. Of course I’m 37 in two days, you never know what can happen in the future, so I just want to enjoy it.”

Second-seeded Taylor Fritz eased past Aslan Karatsev 7-6(7-4), 6-3. Fritz tallied 14 aces and never lost serve.

Other matches saw German hope Jan-Lennard Struff upset No. 5 seed Tommy Paul in straight sets 7-6(7-4), 7-6(7-5) and qualifier Marton Fucsovics eliminated Yibing Wu 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Tomorrow in the quarters, Fritz will face Fucsovics. Fritz leads Fucsovics 2-0 in their tour-level meetings including in Munich in April.

No. 3 Frances Tiafoe squares off against Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti has won two of three tour-level clashes against Tiafoe, most recently in Rome.

No. 4 Hubert Hurkacz takes on Christopher O’Connell in a first-time tour-level collision. And Struff will test Gasquet having lost both meetings with the Frenchman.
