2024 Cincinnati Masters Day 3: Sinner, Medvedev, Swiatek, Musetti v Tiafoe

The Cincinnati Masters kicks into high gear with the top two players in the world in action. WTA No. 1 Iga Swiatek makes her summer hard court debut against Varvara Gracheva in an evening title. The Polish star won the French Open but followed up with disappointing runs at Wimbledon and the Olympics where she fell to Qinwen Zheng on court Phillipe Chatrier.
New American star Emma Navarro also opens play, she faces teen Mirra Andreeva.
Victoria Azarenka, former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and Paula Badosa are also in action.
For the men, Jannik Sinner will test his sore right hip against rising American Alex Michelson. Sinner aggravated the hip last week in Montreal but says that all is well now.
“I feel quite good. Obviously I made nearly one week without practicing before and then after playing for two, three days in a row, a bit more than usual, [that] could [have had] a potential impact to the hip,” Sinner said to the ATP over the weekend. “But I’m not afraid. I feel good with the hip, and I’m just looking forward to go back on court here.”
Michelson, a 19-year-old qualifier, is looking forward to it.
“It’ll be a lot of fun. I’ve got nothing to lose,” Michelsen told atptour.com. “I’m going to go out there and try my best to swing free and have fun, and we’ll see what happens.”
Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Jan-Lennard Struff, Daniil Medvedev meets the returning Jiri Lehecka and Frances Tiafoe collides with Lorenzo Musetti is a good showdown.
